According to a magazine article about her Shirleyness what a work colleague told me about, she was reported as saying that she will be giving it large in the costume department for her Glastonbury appearance.

Seems only fair to repay the compliment, so we intend to get togged up posh like. Mrs MU is currently browing ebay for feather boas & sequinned dresses. I shall aim for something with a dickie bow I think smile.gif

Any takers?

I'm game. smile.gif

Definitely! Sounds a larf.
Maybe we should have little tables, chairs, white tablecloths and cocktails like a few did for ENO. smile.gif

That sounds fabulous but I make all these plans and then forget when I'm there.

I'm a mess and a disgrace.
Tyler
You really mean it too, don't you MU? blink.gif

Marvellous! I am thinking boa, diamante, tiara and fabulous strappy shoes with long gold evening gloves. biggrin.gif

Of course I'm serious - how can we not dress up!!

I'm just not getting why people are seeing her in the first place, let alone dressing up. I'm just not feeling the Goldfinger, Hey Big Spender and M&S ads love. But I'll STFU now since if I'm not seeing her, I should stay out of the thread. wink.gif

Because it'll be a piece of glorious kitsch marvellousness biggrin.gif

I believe two things about the glasto crowd. Firstly they know their music, & secondly they are more than capable of sticking their tongues firmly in their cheeks & saying "why the fuck not". Hence the wonderful success of Rolf Harris & Chas n Dave.

Throw aside such scepticism & join in the party - it'll be a piece of whacky hat cummerbund joy smile.gif

On the sartorial side, it seems as though posh togs for gentlemen is trickier to find & more expensive on ebay that we thought, so I may be having a little gold sequinned number myself biggrin.gif

What does a 40" chest & 36" waist work out at in ladies' sizes?
jollynolly
I'm game I think we should do the whole afternoon in style, book a table in the silver service Lost Vaugeness resturant (Sunday luncheon) and totter down to see the Dame afterwards. Betling out I I who have nothing as we go.
leftfield
I have an Italian Wool DJ* I can bring and I'll see about a nice dress shirt and tie.

*£3 - Brand New. Shame I couldn't get the troons to match, but never mind. smile.gif
Mighty Upsetter
ooooh!!! Mrs MU has returned from charoty shops with a beeee-yoooooo-teeeful black sequinned number.

Veh nahss!!
Ange
That sounds like great fun, I reckon I'd be up for that smile.gif Although in my drunken state I'll forget to dress up rolleyes.gif
Sonny
I'm in, I have a couple of eye-popping numbers in my wardrobe. unsure.gif
Tyler
What time is she playing?

Might join in with this but it does depend on what else is on at the same time.

I'm up for dressing up, I loves dressing up.

I may end up somewhere else entirely dresed up in daftness but I'm sure that, it being Glastonbury and all, no one will bat an eyelid.

Except maybe Robin. And that may be more a rolling of eyes.
Mighty Upsetter
I now have a dress shirt & an evening suit.

All I need now is the cummerbund & dickie bow & I'm sorted biggrin.gif

Mrs MU has the sexy sequinned number & long gloves & is now hunting for feather type boas & a clutch purse smile.gif
Salks
I like this game, I will definitely play. And I already own a feather boa.

Can someone do my make up though? I'm absolutely rubbish at makeup.

*smiles engagingly at menace/sonny*

I just typed 'dickie bow underpants' into google images.

You can't play. You will be serving me beer.

Apparently Dame Shirl was on the TV & saying she was really nervous about performing in front of us all, so I hope you've all remembered to get dressed up.

My suit has arrived, my shirt, bow tie & cummerbund are on their way. Mrs MU has her dress & long gloves & is just short of a feather boa. Her cigarette holder is on the way too smile.gif
Olivia
I think I definitely fall into the "Couldn't care less if i tried" category for this one. I'm sure you'll all have a smashing time, though. smile.gif
sadwitch
I also don't give a rats ass but I would like a cigarette holder.... though I will have to take up smoking.... hmm.
Ally
If my wedding dress wasn't so fecking big, I'd bring that. I also probably can't get into it any more. Grrrrr.

Maria and I are considering going to the charity shops to find suitable outfits. I think Dame Shirl will be mahvellous.
ali-cat
I might have to replace my blond wig that Reuben currently has and try to find a boa and some long gloves to go with my combats and t-shirt look. smile.gif

Much the same really. I'll be at the bandstand moshing to the wurzels and mainlining cider.

Now thats a plan.

Anybody able to do up-do type hairstyles? I'd provide all the hairpins and hairspray! Still not used to having long hair. Perhaps a nice beehive for Dame Shirley? Tempted to bring some plastic champagne glasses to drink pear out of also.

I'd offer to have a go but by Sunday I don't think my co-ordination will be all that great. But if you don't mind having backcombed hair that runs the risk of looking like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards then I'll have a bash at it.

Sounds like a plan

Went to TK Max in Lewisham yesterday and had a look in the evening wear section. They do some absolutely fabulous-hidious dresses from £18 to £40, perfect for Dame Shirly (in fact, I'm sure IO've seen her wearing a few of them!). Gold Lame rouched halterneck dress anyone? Lol

Anyways, I may have found the perfect dress. All bright red and chiffon, floor length and gathered down one side. Veh low cut with a beaded detail hanging under the bosom. I heart it. However, it is £40 and is at least 2 inches too long.

I shall have to back and try it on again methinks.
Riles
The tux is most definately being cleaned this week. Whether I wear it to Dame Shirley is still under debate, but I remembered other accessories what I own for it, which could make it a lot of fun.
ali-cat
I really should sort something for this.

Riles - just the accessories or the tux too?
mogwai
Ali, just head down the hill to TK Max when you get home. You're bound to find something there! Or actually, would you get something a lot cheaper in Serbia?

Serbian women are all skinny things and often very tall so unlikely I'd find anything. Also involves going into town and I'm exceptionally lazy at the moment (and on call this weekend). TK Max, Matalan and Oxfam in Blackheath will be perused when I get back.
menace
I don't think I'm going the whole hog like some of you. I've got a little cocktail dress type thing that I'm probably going to wear over jeans if its chilly. I do plan on some bling, this is to include a tiara, if I can find it.
ali-cat
Woop! My favourite costume shop place in Clapham has a lovely website with lots of things on I want. Need my wig back off Reuben if it's wearable, if not I shall purchase a new one along with a boa and long gloves. And pink feathers to use as confetti as a friends' LV wedding on the Saturday afternoon along with something pink to wear - possibly a sparkly pink hat of some variety biggrin.gif
Mighty Upsetter
I'm also toying with plastic champagne flutes to have me special brew in smile.gif
mogwai
Indeed! I also have plastic champer flutes to bring for my pear cider! Great minds eh?

Ali, what fancy dress shop is it? Link please! I have seen feather boas in John Lewis (in the knitting department) for 12.50. Is that a good price or a rip off? Long time since I used to wear one down the local.
venusvibetrap
andy/Reubs - do we need to get some straw in to dress up for the wurzels? biggrin.gif

But it'll get in me bits and will be bastarding itchy. We should, however, get very drunk on cider.

I don't have a link I'm afraid, but in yell.com I put costume shops in SW15 and it was the first shop that came up. It's really close to Clapham Junction Station. Boas there were, I think, about 7 or 8 quid each. Not dead cheap but reasonable, and last time I went in there they had a sale on but weren't advertising it much.
mogwai
The red dress I was planning on getting was gone in my size so I bought a much cheaper black halterneck chiffon floor length dress. Was debating getting shoes, but given that we'll be camping on top of a hill, maybe it'll look fine with my trainers? Just need to bling it up a bit and I'll be ready. Anyone know where I can get silver evening gloves?
ali-cat
I've got my black dress I wore to the Marine Ball last year but it's still a bit "new" to maybe wreck in potential mud. I shall have a look in TK Maxx and the like when I head to Clapham when I'm back.

Maria - I'll have a look for gloves in the costume shop in the Junction when I go over there. Or you could try Debenhams or somewhere maybe?
Ange
I've got a feaher boa and that's it. I'm tempted not to bother looking for a dress but I know when everyone else is tarted up I'll be dead jealous. Hmmm what a quandry....

To the charity shops!
Ally
Should I accesorise with a tiara, or with a fake veil from my 1st Hen party?

I think if we drink enough cider from the moment we arrive on wednesday, our noses should be red enough to pass as comedy fancy dress ones cheer.png
