I can't make GlastoEarth work so is that a nice distance from the pylons and away from the evil buzziness of them?
What cant you get to work?
You need GoogleEarth installed.
Get it here, it is freeOpen it up and see if it works. You do need a decent internet connection and a good graphics card. If it works on its own then with google earth open and running click on this link.
GO HEREYou will be asked if you want to download the file, there may be a security warning appear at the top of the page, right click on it and select 'download file' You will then get a box for the downloading options, select "Open".
The file is very small and will only take a second to download, google earth should then become focused and in the places tab, under Temporary places there should be a branch called GlastoEarth2009. This is the glasto earth part.
open up the tree and look for Bonus Features and under that should be GlastoEarth 3d, check the box next to it an open up its branch. You should see the names of areas of the site and in front of them will be little folders that are flashing as GoogleEarth downloads the data. Wait until they are all folders with green dots on them
Look further down in the Layers section and check to make sure the Terrain box has a tick in it.
You are now set to look around the site.
Go back to the Places area and double click 'the pyramid' under the GlastoEarth 3D tab, the view should move above the pyramid.
Move the mouse around and when it turns to a little hand left click and move the mouse slightly. The view will move with the mouse. Try this for a bit, then click back on the pyramid in the tree, the view will go back to above the pyramid.
On the right hand side there are two round controls and a long thin one. These control the direction and height of the view. If you cant see these controls, hover the mouse over the 'N' in the top right of the screen and they will appear.
Ill start with the middle one first, this moves the view in compos directions while staying at the same altitude and angle. The long thin one changes the altitude of the view.
Now the top one is the most powerful of the viewpoint commands, this is like moving your head, you can move it to the right and left and up and down. By clicking on the outer ring you can move it to the left and right, it the view continues to rotate single click the outer ring and it will stop.
If you click and gently drag on the arrows on the top control it will move the view like moving your head around.
So in summary the three controls on the top right move the view around. The long thin one is like stretching your neck, the middle one is for walking around and the top one is for moving the position of you neck.
Also if you have a wheel on your mouse you can use that to zoom in and out, this zoom happens along your current line of sight.
