Full Version: Going to a festival on your own

I'm really drawn to Beautiful Days this year and now I'm going to be working again I might be able to afford it. The line up is incredibly strong for my tastes but it would appear I'm running out of options for people that may want to come with me. So, I'm considering going to a festival on my own for the first time in 18 years.

Has anyone else done it? Good/bad experiences? I'm used to going in a big crowd of close mates and the whole partying/losing everything I own element it far more important than the music nowadays. But the line up is so up my street I'm thinking about going billy no mates. More than anything I'm concerned about the mornings before the music starts. Will Radio 4 and a good political biography keep me amused? I'm sure people will bang on about how friendly festival crowds are and how I'll get chatting to people easily but tbh that sounds my idea of perfect hell. I'm quite an anti-social fellow when it comes to talking to people and like it that way.

So, who's gone solo? Who thinks I'm a bit of a loser for even contemplating it?

I essentially went on my own to Glastonbury in 2007 when I worked for Oxfam. The only people I knew going were the people from here I'd met at the pre glasto meet where I concussed myself and Reuben who was going through one of his charming sporadic phases of not speaking to me. I ended up having a great time (unlike everyone else apparently) I met a lot of people I never saw again and made some friends too through working and just chatting while hammered.

I also went to EOTR almost on my own as I was camping with my friend Paul who I rarely ever see in real life and his ex girlfreind. I spent a fair amount of time on my own and I would go to EOTR completely on my own now as I love it so much and the music is all entirely what I like to listen to.

My first ever Glasto was on my own.

I ended up having the most sex at a festival ever a great time.

What you should do is find an internet forum like this one, but that's all about festivals. There's bound to be one as festivals are quite popular these days. You could suss out if there's any other losers going and hook up and have a really awkward time trying to avoid them after the first five minutes.

No way. I'd really miss the banter & the bits that make festivals for me. Like the crying episode at Wychwood and Lori looking after me. I'd also miss the hateful people like Mike "Left Eagle Eye Cherry in a Travelodge to sort his shit out" and bitching about them. Also, I'd have the fright about getting spannered, nobody to look after me & not being able to find my tent.

Anyway, you never asked me.

More than welcome to come with me and our Sarah we go every year. I love BD'S and as it's the turn of The Boys from County Hell it would be rude to refuse.
As for going on my lonesome to a festival I haven't but I may as well have at Glasto some years as I always tend to loose everyone and spend a good 10 hours harassing randoms

I forgot don't go to the BD's meet, me and Sarah went last year I only tried to help a disabled lady to the toilet ..................the fuss that was made!!! I saw her scooting up a hill later not a stick in sight

I can't imagine going to a festival and not have anybody to compare "Neil is a cunt" stories with!!!

MU - so I have to have sexy time with some unlucky unfortunate if I go to a festival on my own? Poor poor unfortunate. sad.gif

Becks - I'm sure I asked before but I'll ask again. You coming to Beautiful Days to see The Pogues? It'll be ace and there's no silly arena with men from Glasgow that growl at you. Or 4am ''I'm not going to tell you again'' visits.

Speaking of The Pogues, I've never once been able to sing all the words to Streams of Whiskey without getting confused and giving up for a fag. Christ only knows how Shane spat out all those lyrics on the original.

So resepct to these kids, they do a grand job I think.

What date is it? When did you ask? I don't think you did.

I can do all the words to Sally Maclennane and many of the others. I am most excited about seeing them than any other band this year. BD's have also got the Peatbog Faeries.

I did mean it when I said you were welcome to camp with me and the lovely Sarah we promise to be very very good angel.png

Who said there was anyone else involved?

I'm seriously considering going to the big chill on my own this year, money permitting (dee is looking after the pub she used to work in that weekend and the line up at the chill this year is cracking)

I don't think it would bother me going to a festival on my own, i'm quite happy to talk to randoms, and at least you can always just wander off and go see other things if you don't want to be stuck talking to someone.

With the amount of festival people we know from over the years, there is nearly always someone going to the same festival so its not like you are completely on your own anyhow.

Do it i reckon smile.gif

I'd imagine you'd struggle to find someone at a festival who doesn't have a "Neil is a cunt" story.

I like these type of posts smile.gif

Did Big Chill in 07 and Glastonbury in 08 by myself. Enjoyed them both lots, but missed the 'what did you like best' conversation on the way home.

Is Ann coming to Glastonbury this year?

They were absolutely brilliant at OTT in May. The finest gig I've ever seen them play.

Aww, fab. But not at the board meet? This is worrying.
