Obviously they deserve their own thread.
Been to see them at Wembley Stadium tonight and on the way home was considering how to sum the evening up. Thought about sleeping on it and see how I feel in the morning but, somewhat unusually, I feel quite sober on the return from the gig (probably the 2 hour trip home that sobered me up).
What can I say? Obviously I'm way too young to have seen the Pistols or the Clash, dreary dullards like The Beatles, Led Zep, the Stones etc snore etc hold no interest for me. I've seen Public Enemy, Pixies, the Roses, Nirvana, Specials, all the bands that revered by people what like music nowadays. But nothing could even come close to tonight's gig. As far as I'm concerned I might as well give up on live music, I've seen the pinnacle. There surely will never be a better live concert ever put on by a band. Ever.
The first 20 minutes before they came on was stomach-churningly exciting. Like the start of a De Le Guarda/Cirque de Soleil show (I'm trying not to give too much away to people that have tickets for tomorrow night's show) but with added balloons. Throw in some of the most astonishing acrobatics I've ever seen, a fucking great huge mechanical elephant (with a very scantily-dressed lady with long hair hanging upside down for about 15 minutes acting a said elephant's tail) stomping up and down the middle of the audience from time to time, fireworks, more costume changes than Babs Streisand could shake a very big stick at, in Never Forget the best live clap-along tune of all time (Radio Ga Ga, you have well been relegated) and some of the most joyous pop music ever made and you simply have the best pop concert of all time.
For fucks sake, they threw away Back For Good after 5 songs. Needless to say the fountains during the song would put the Bellagio to shame.
What a night, what a gig, what a band.
I well need to have a lie down.
